Anantnag, April 11 : Pahalgam residents on Monday appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to approve Master Plan Pahalgam to make father's dream come true of making Pahalgam a world class tourist destination.
In a seminar held at Town Hall Pahalgam organized by 'Collation of Unions' , participants alleged that deliberate delay in implementing Master Plan Pahalgam is devastating the fragile environment of the famed tourist spot besides helping land mafia.
Mushtaq Ahmad Magray, chairman of Himalayan welfare association, accused authorities of benefiting influential people and suspected foul in delaying the implementation of Master plan.
"Senior officials could have tempered the Actual Pahalgam Master Plan that they put before the public in 2015," Pahalgami suspected.
He asked authorities to publicize the Master Plan draft before it is approved by the government.
"Master plan draft was put before the public and other stakeholders, objections which we people filed were disposed off and our recommendations were incorporated in the Master Plan drafted by CTP, but we fail to understand why the report has not been yet submitted to government and why it hasn't been approved it." Participants told Early Times.
They asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to make Make late father's dream come true of developing the Pahalgam a world class tourist destination.
"In his ten months rule Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed made many trips to Pahalgam, he talked to people and publicly expressed his desire to make Pahalgam a world class tourist destination, so we expect Mehbooba to fulfill his father's dream by approving the Pahalgam Master Plan," they added.
Pertinently, after putting a blanket ban on the constructions in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir High Court in year 2011 directed the authorities to go for revision of Master Plan (2006) after observing that it was full of flaws. Fallowing which a committee comprising of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) and a representative of Chief Town Planner (CTP) drafted the Master Plan of Pahalgam and put it into the public domain for objections and suggestions.
In December 2013, committee incorporated the suggestions of general public and of other stakeholders into the draft and while as settled down the objections, however according to official sources wasn't forwarded to NC-Congress coalition government for approval.
