Sidhra road turns safe haven for drug mafia | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 20: Believe it or not but some restaurants cum tuck shops along Sidhra Bye Pass -the National Highway have become safe haven for drug mafia as drug trade is flourishing under the very nose nose of police with alleged connivance of some black moles within police department. "There is no check of police in the said restaurants where drug addicts, from affluent families, often visit . Expensive vehicles are seen outside these restaurants along the national highway", said a local, who further added all this is becoming a nuisance for them. Situated at outskirts, the road is mostly used by the heavy vehicles and commercial vehicles owing to which the activities taking place there are either ignored or go unnoticed. Within short time, sudden mushrooming of restaurants along the National Highway at Sidhra Bye Pass indicates that something illegal is happening. Police last year had raided a restaurant, which was sublet by the ex-senior cop, along the National Highway. Sources claimed that the raids were conducted after the inputs that immoral activities including consumption of liquor, rave parties and others were taking place there. However the raid didn't help. Pertinently, the state's intelligence agencies had already reported the matter of immoral activities in the restaurant to the senior police officers. The issue hit the media limelight after two Domana based youth died in a road accident and the duo was reportedly under intoxication. Though this was an isolated case but it raised finger of suspicion towards the police but it had given a ray of hope to locals of area to get a respite from alleged illegal activities in the area. But their hopes fell flat as the tuck shops and restaurants continued to mushroom in the area and are being visited by youth frequently. |
