Rural hospitals face shortage of Anesthetic, Psychiatrist doctors | Specialists hold administrative posts, patients suffer | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 20:At a time when Rural hospitals in Jammu division are facing acute shortage of Anesthesia and Psychiatric doctors, the specialists who completed their specialization on expense of state government are holding administrative posts. Moreover, the previous regime had attached around 20 doctors with DHS Jammu, who were holding administrative posts and getting salary in lakhs, are sitting idle. Sources in Health and Medical Education Department told Early Times that more than hundreds doctors who completed specialization courses on expenses of state government, to meet the shortage of specialists' doctors in rural hospitals, are unable to utilize their skills. "Around 97 doctors who, completed their specialization as Anesthetic to run operation theatres in rural areas are holding administrative posts", sources said, adding that prize and choicest posting had badly affected public health delivery system in state. They further said that under mental health scheme a special training was provided to doctors, to make Psychiatric doctors available in each district hospital. "According to special scheme, training was provided to doctors at National Mental Health Institute Bangalore", sources said, adding that these doctors were also underwent Psychiatric training, but they have failed to serve any purpose." "For specialist training government spends more than Rs 30lalkhs on each doctor", they said, and added that after completing their training, these doctors prefer administrative posts. Most specialists are holding post of District Tuberculosis Officers, BMO, CMO and other posts", they added. Sources said that during previous regime more than 20 doctors who were holding administrative posts in health department were attached with Director Health Services Jammu. "All these doctors, who are getting over Rs one lakh salary per month are sitting idle at DHS Jammu", they added. They said that some senior doctors have surrendered their NPA, but are still holding administrative posts. "These doctors see scores patients in their private clinics daily," sources added. |
