Irrelevant separatists pushed on back foot, normalcy returns to Handwara | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 20: Separatists in Kashmir have been pushed on a back foot as their attempts to instigate violence and turn Handwara issue into a "big controversy" failed to fetch the desired results as the life returned to normal in the frontier town on Wednesday. Sources said failure of the separatists has annoyed their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) as they believe that a "golden chance" to create unrest in Kashmir has gone in a vain. "Separatists had been instructed to recreate 2010 like situation in Kashmir but all their attempts failed," they added. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "People in Kashmir seem to have realized that shutdown calls, stone pelting and hitting the streets has not yielded anything except killings and destruction." He said, "Separatists have become irrelevant and people have rejected the idea of separatism and secession. Srinagar remaining calm despite separatists giving back to back shutdown calls is an ample proof about separatists having lost the ground in Kashmir. Even their bosses sitting across the LoC have realized that separatists are of no use." An analyst said, "Similar kind of situation was created in 2009 when a teenage girl and her sister-in-law drowned in a river in south Kashmir's Shopian area. Soon after the incident came to fore separatists added fuel to the fire and wrecked havoc in Kashmir by alleging that the duo was raped and murdered. The Handwara girl should thank her stars that miscreants didn't kill her so that they could shift the blame on the Army." A police officer said, "The girl whom the people claimed had been molested by the soldiers has reiterated before the Magistrate that her bag was snatched by the miscreants and they raised hue and cry for nothing." He said, "Police have arrested one of the boys who was involved in snatching the bag of the girl and efforts are on to track down the other miscreants." The officer said, "The incident happened on the day when separatists had called for a Valley wide shutdown. We are looking into the separatist angle into the entire incident. There is every possibility about separatists wanted to foment trouble across Kashmir by asking the miscreants to enact a drama." "It seems after the drama failed and girl remained firm on her statement the separatists roped in a Kashmir based Civil Society group which intimidated the girl's mother to give a statement that her daughter had given the statement under duress," the officer said, adding, " The victim girl and her father had voluntarily approached the Police to seek security as they were being threatened by the anti-national elements. We had taken them in protective custody but the Civil Society group claimed that they were arrested. However, their argument stands punctured as the girl has not changed her statement and has shown the courage to stand out in the crowd." |
