Pak's futile exercise on Modi's Katra visit | | | Did Pakistan expect to frighten Prime Minister Narendra Modi by violating ceasefire agreement in Samba sector so that he either postponed or cancelled his visit to Katra where he inaugurated super speciality hospital and addressed students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University during the annual convocation? No, Modi is strong enough and just four or five rounds fired by the Pakistani Rangers could have hardly caused any scare in his mind. Pakistan needs to be reminded that Modi did not cancel his visit to Brussels which was bruised by major terror strikes in which over 32 people were killed. Islamabad normally indulges in some such acts whenever a dignitary from the west or Pakistan visits India. By doing so, Pakistan intends to remind the world that it is not prepared to mend fences with New Delhi unless the so-called Kashmir issue was resolved. And the Rangers were possibly assigned the task of frightening Modi by firing disturbing peace on the IB. They probably did not know that he was to attend functions in Katra which is 93 km away from the border. Even the aerial distance between Samba and Katra is 54 km. Hours before Modi's visit to Katra on Tuesday, Pak troops resorted to ceasefire violation in Samba sub-sector of Jammu. BSF troops, guarding the borderline, had retaliated. BSF had also picked up suspicious movement near a forward area in Samba sub-sector and resorted to firing thereby forcing the suspects to flee. In fact, the Rangers wanted to push groups of militants into Jammu sector for indulging in violence on the eve of Modi's visit. The Prime Minister arrived at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University complex where he also inaugurated a super-speciality hospital, a sports stadium and took part in the convocation after which he addressed a public meeting, ignoring Pakistan and its policy on Kashmir. He assured Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti of his Government's full support for taking Jammu and Kashmir to new heights of development and glory. While invoking Vajpayee's famous slogan of "Kashmiriyat, Insaaniyat and Jhamooriyat" Modi added to it "Sab Kaa Saath Sab Kaa Vikaas."In short Modi felt elated over the way Mehbooba has been all the time talking of development of the state. And rightly Modi promised added financial support besides Rs 80,000 cr package to Jammu and Kashmir so that the coalition government is able to resolve some of the pressing problems of people. And Pakistan should understand that its troops can never unnerve Modi by opening a fire or two on the border. Time has come for Islamabad to build bridges with India which could prove key to peace in the South Asian region. |
