NEW DELHI, Apr 21: For the lust of power has forced leadership of "nationalist" BJP to remain tight-lipped over bulldozing bunkers from the main chowk of Handwara in Northern Kashmir, there is strong resentment among forces, operating in Kashmir Valley, against this weakness being shown by the BJP led NDA Government at New Delhi. Soldiers working on the grounds are feeling demoralized as they are forced to submit over those anti-national elements, who are trying to minimize presence of the Army and other central forces from the towns of Kashmir Valley to accomplish their nefarious designs. Credible sources in the corridors of powers said that Army formation, operating in hinterlands of Kashmir Valley, are getting very disturbing feedback from the ground that soldiers are demoralized due to the weakness being shown by the politicians. The anti-national elements have launched a well-knit campaign to humiliate soldiers functioning on the ground. These elements are deliberately attacking soldiers at different places by stones, realizing that they do not face order to take action against these elements. As reported earlier, to curb growing dissent in the Kupwara frontier, state authorities on Tuesday had removed bunkers of the Army from the Handwara mainchowk. Sources said the coalition government of PDP-BJP had full support of the Centre for removing the bunkers. The Army had earlier said it would look into the demand of the state government to remove the bunkers. As district authorities started the demolition work during curfew relaxation on Tuesday morning, hundreds of people assembled at the chowk to express support. Residents of the area had been moving towards the bunkers during relaxation hours of the curfew to raze them to the ground. The main bunker in the middle of the road was a concrete structure constructed in 1993. The second bunker, which had been erected over a line of shops, was razed down last week by irate residents. The third bunker, also constructed over shops, on right side of the market was partially damaged during the protests of last week. On Tuesday, district authorities razed down all the three bunkers. |
