Early Times Report
Kishtwar, May 16: The residents of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan of Sub Division Marwah of Kishtwar District today held strong protest at Kishtwar in support of their demands ahead of District Development Board Meeting against the absenteeism culture which is resulting into non existence of government offices at Sub Divisional HQ at Nawapachi and shortage of ration and non availability of roads, electricity and communication.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the agitated people from different areas of Marwah today assembled at Historic Chowghan Ground Kishtwar and held a massive protest against the administration and the government for their failure in addressing the long pending issues and demands of the people of the area having population of more than 50000 souls.
Wearing black armlets and heed gears the protestors staged protest to show their resentment towards the administration and the government failure to provide basic amenities to people in remote areas.
While talking to "Early Times", the angry youths said even after over six decades of Independence there was no road to Marwah and Dachhan, no electricity in over 50 villages in the area while the telecommunication facility too is zero level. They added that even the ration supplied to the remote areas by the government to has been reported embezzled as a result of which the poor people of these areas have to face the brunt.
"Our elders died while being taken on ride by the then political representatives and the same is being happening to the new generations also- it seems that our dreams too will die" said 25 years youth Sheryar Lone who also lamented that the worst affected is the student community which is getting its academics affecting due to non availability of teachers and basic infrastructure.
Another youth Rouf Ahmed said that absenteeism prevailing in government offices is making most of office non existence which is the major plight of the people of area who now have demanded that government should fix the time frame for addressing all the issues and problems faced by the people of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan.
Ruling Party MLC from PDP Firdous Ahmed Tak also visited the agitating people and assured them that he will rake-up the matters in District Development Board (DDB) meeting, but his assurances too seemed ineffective as the protestors continue with their protest at Chowghan Ground as police did not allow them to move outside Chowghan ground Kishtwar.
After protesting for several hours, the agitating protestors threatened in case the issues and concerns of the people could not be addressed, they will hold protest outside Civil Secretariat Srinagar.
