'Rename J&K as Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh' | Ladakhi complaint | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 16: The people of far off Ladakh have a complaint against the powers-that-be in New Delhi and J&K. Their complaint is genuine. Their complaint is that although the state consists of three distinct geographical and cultural regions, the name of their region do not find place in the nomenclature of the state. "Why the state is being termed as J&K State?, they ask. Why Ladakh finds no mention in the nomenclature of the state?, they also ask. They also say that during the Dogra regime, the nomenclature of the state was comprehensive and ask that the state be renamed as the State of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh State. They further say that the two reasons behind their demand for Union Territory status are the denial of due place to their region in the nomenclature of the state and the manner in which the Kashmiri Muslim leadership seeks to impose their communal will on them and establish a regime that would destroy Ladakh, Ladakhi people and their identity and culture. "Our identity is being eroded systematically. Our demography is being changed systematically. Our region is being converted into a Muslim-majority region through conversion and deceit. We want a dispensation of our own so that we could preserve our identity, culture and religion," they say day-in and day-out. Indeed, their complaint against the authorities is very valid and it needs to be redressed. Ladakh is a distinct region and it became part of the Jammu Kingdom much before the formation of the J&K state in March 1846. It would be in the fitness of things if the state is renamed to respect their feelings and sentiments. However, it would be important to note that the Congress and Prime Minister Nehru had at the behest of Kashmiri Muslim leadership sought to remove even Jammu from the nomenclature of the state in 1947. Had three members of the Indian Constituent Assembly Prof KT Shah from Bihar, LakhsmiKantamoitra from West Bengal and HV Kamath from Central provinces and Bihar not opposed the sinister move of the Congress, the name of the state today would have been State of Kashmir and not State of J&K. The Congress conspired against Jammu despite the fact that it was Kashmir which was became part of the Dogra Kingdom under the Treaty of Amritsar. |
