Sanctioned in 2008, work on GDC buildings yet to complete | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 16: One more example of prevailing administrative inertia in government functioning has come to fore, the Higher Education Department had sanctioned nine Government Degree Colleges to Jammu division in 2008, but all the colleges' works is yet not completed despite lapse of eight years. Moreover, owing to apathy of the government, all the colleges are running in rented accommodation since the last eight years, thanks to the Higher Education Department especially Higher Education minister, Naeem Akthar who claims that his government was committed to provide all tangible facilities to the education institutions. "In 2008, the previous government led by Omar Abdullah had sanctioned nine Government Degree Colleges for Jammu division including Bishnah, Paloura, Budhal (Rajouri), Kilhotran (Doda), Dharmari (Reasi), Chatroo (Kisthwar), Bani (Kathua), Banihal and Nowshera". However, the PDP- BJP coalition government has claimed that we were committed to provide quality education at all levels, but it’s higher education department has failed to construct the buildings of nine colleges in stipulated time frame for which deadlines was decided by the previous government. Reliable source in department said that to provide higher education to rural youth at door steps, to the government was sanctioned these GDC in far flung areas of Jammu division. "But due to ordinary delaying in the construction, the purpose of colleges, is defeating in each passing days while the government seems less botherd about it", said the source not to be mentioned. "The callous approach of the department could be gauged from this fact that the GDC, Bishnah and Paloura are still not successful to acquire land for the construction of buildings", the sources said. The source further said that for the construction of GDC, Bani, the department concerned initially hired the Public Works Department (PWD) then Jammu Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC), and later it hired the Jammu Kashmir Housing Board, but all of them had refused to undertake the building, and now the department has again allotted work to JKPCC. "Despite availability of the science streams in these colleges, most of the students are still compelled to move towards city colleges to get higher education which makes the mockery of tall claims made by the previous government as well as the incumbent coalition government", he said. |
