Sectt gherao prog of Cong lacked logic | | | Prof. Kali Dass Congress gheraoed civil secretariate on May 9, the first day of its opening in Srinagar after durbar move. There was no specific agenda. The party also did not raise any issue pertaining to people. JKPCC president G A Mir opposed the Srinagar Sainik Colony. A party vice-president was quick in supporting Mir. Their statements, however, were not based on logics. It was not clear if they wanted to say that Jammu Sanink Colony dwellers were non-state subjects. Congress and NC ruled the state for maximum time in J&K State. Congress ruled the state after independence till 1975 when Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah had taken over the reigns of J&K. In J&K, people have been the worst sufferers at the hands of successive governments. When the Apex Court's judgment of 1992 on Mandal Report is applicable throughout the country, it is not applicable in J&K. It is surprising that even after the lapse of 24 years of Apex Court's judgment of 1992 on Mandal Commission, J&K OBCs have been deprived from the due share. Vote begging in the name of old Congress party does not suit now and people have already rejected it. Though there have been pro-people slogans by the ruling parties in J&K from to time, the people's grievances remain unaddressed. |
