Kathua: Bovine smugglers get safe passage, cops in slumber | | | Neeraj Badyal
Early Times Report
SAMBA, MAy 16: Bovine smugglers travel all the way from Kathua to Ghagwal after covering a distance of nearly 40 km, but they surprisingly don't fall in the trap of Kathua cops. While at least 11 bovine smuggling bids have been foiled by Ghagwal police in the last two months, smugglers were caught nowhere on the Kathua-Ghagwal road stretch that has several police nakas on it. "This shows the cops manning nakas on the Kathua-Ghagwal road stretch never put the bovine smugglers's vehicles to checking. This reflects their alleged non-seriousness towards duties. Militants can also cross these nakas in the guise of bovine smugglers," police sources said. Sources said there were two police stations at Lakhanpur and Rajbagh and three police posts at Hatli Morh, Chadwal and Londi Morh on the Lakhanpur-Ghagwal road. Lakhanpur falls in Kathua. "Outside them, there are police nakas which are operational 24x7. Despite that bovine smugglers manage to dodge the alert cops. This is surprising," the sources added. However, after dodging the Kathua cops, the smugglers fall in the trap of Ghagwal police. "At least 11 bovine smuggling bids have been foiled by Ghagwal police in the past two months, with the cops rescuing 97 bovines which were being illegally carried in eight trucks and three Mahindra load carriers," sources informed. |
