7 yrs on, 4 ropeways project in Padder yet to be completed

Srinagar, June 15: To the disappointment of farmers living in remote villages of Ligri, Sohal, Chitoo, Kaban and Ungaie of Padder Sub Division of Kishtwar District, the four ropeways project identified by the government in the year 2007-08 for smooth transportation of vegetables, fruits and other agriculture material to nearest road side are yet to be completed despite spending an amount of Rs. 139 Lakhs.
While debating the issue in the Legislative Council, MLC through calling attention motion seeks the attention of the government towards the matter of urgent public importance namely the situation that has arisen due to delay in installation of a ropeway in Padder Sub Division and steps taken by the government to expedite the same, the government reply stated that the agriculture department in coordination with other concerned agencies during 2007-08 found that the farmers could be benefited by installing of Ropeway Trolleys as were in use in neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand and accordingly an estimate was prepared at a total cost of Rs. 137.62 lakhs in 2007-08 which was later revised in 2011-12 at Rs. 448.72 Lakhs and was taken under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.
The government reply further stated that installation of Ropeway from Gulabgard to Ligri (70.74 Lakhs cost) with 1.50 KM length has been completed 90% and only Tightening and Testing of Ropeway is under progress, while partial material was stalked for installation of Ropeway from Sohal to Chitoo (2.50 KM), Sohal to Kabban (5 KM) and Sohal to Ungaie (4 KM)has been done till date.
Reacting to the government reply, MLC said that the project has the great importance for the local farmers of the Padder and demanded that government should expedite the work so that same could be completed in time bound manner and demanded immediate release of the funds to the concern agency for early completion of the same. The government assured that the matter will be looked into added that the progress on remaining three spots will be expedited subjected to the availability of funds by the agriculture department.
