| 'Fooling people of Jammu by politics of deceit' | | BJP's crocodile tears | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 15: Ours is a cabinet system of government and those who are in power take policy decisions. And if something goes wrong, the whole of the cabinet or whole of the government is held responsible. The system in Jammu and Kashmir is no different, notwithstanding the fact that we have a separate constitution and the centre-state relations are governed under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. In Jammu and Kashmir also, there is cabinet system of government and it has now a coalition government run by the PDP and the BJP. Both the parties are held responsible if something goes wrong somewhere or if the state government prefers one region over the other as it has been happening in the state.
Ironically, here we have a party, called the BJP, which has been playing a dubious role to hoodwink and mislead the people of Jammu province by accusing the state government of not doing justice to the Jammu province or of treating it shabbily or of not giving the people of the province what they deserve in the state's political and economic processes. It has equal number of legislators with the PDP. It can bring down the government any time if it so likes. But what it has been doing is highly ridiculous. It has been criticizing the government through press statements being issued at regular intervals. Besides, it has been invoking late Mufti Sayeed and present Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and urging the PDP leadership not to accord shabby treatment to Jammu province with whose help the BJP came into power in the state in March 2015.
One of its spokespersons and former president of Jammu State Morcha, Virender Gupta, has been almost on a daily basis shedding crocodile tears hoping that his statements will help the BJP, which he joined only recently, win back the trust of the alienated people of Jammu province. On the one hand, he has been speaking the Congress language and pitching for the Jammu province's disintegration by demanding district councils for Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, saying these are the neglected districts, and, on the other hand, telling the PDP-BJP coalition government that the people of Jammu province are not happy, as they feel that they have been getting only crumbs.
Only the other day, he issued a statement, which, inter-alia, said: "The BJP calls upon the state government to honour the commitment given by Late Mufti Mohd Sayeed and later on by the present Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, that equitable development of all the regions of the state shall be insured (read ensured) and the differences and the alienation existing between the people of Jammu region and those of Kashmir valley would be eliminated. The people of Jammu region are still feeling neglected and discriminated against in the present regime.
No efforts are being made for delimitation of Legislative constituencies. (there should be) renovation work of Mubarak Mandi complex and early completion of the Tawi lake project. Discrimination is also being faced by the people's of Jammu region in the matter of development of roads, infrastructure, irrigation, agriculture and horticulture sectors. There is great resentment brewing among the people of Jammu province and therefore, immediate steps need to be taken for the redressal of the grievances of the people".
It is absurd that the BJP, which is part of the state government, has been indulging in politics of deceit. It should either assert its authority and deliver or it should say goodbye and play the role of opposition. It can't enjoy the loaves and fishes of office and criticize its own government at the same time. The fact of the matter is that the people of Jammu province are fed up with the kind of politics the BJP has been playing in Jammu province. |
