Early Times Report
Jammu, June 15: Pakistan's spy agency ISI is reported to have directed the militant handlers in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to shift their focus on Jammu region.
Sources told Early Times the intelligence agencies have collected enough evidences about militants planning to carry out strikes in Jammu by using parachutes and para-gliders to target vital installations in the region. "The intelligence input has been shared with the administration and it has been asked not to allow any person to start activities like para-gliding and para-sailing in Jammu region without the prior permission of the authorities and due security clearance," they added.
Sources claimed that intelligence agencies have warned the district administration about the possibility of militants carrying out an attack on the pilgrims visiting the Mata Vashino Devi shrine at Kathua. "We have intensified the vigil on railway stations and the bus stations and have asked people to keep their eyes open," said a police official.
The ISI, according to the sources, wants to shift the focus to Jammu region as the robust counter infiltration grid along Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir region is acting as a "big barrier" for militants to cross over to this side. "With the onset of summer season Pakistan made desperate bids to push in the militants from the traditional routes but the alert soldiers on the LoC and latest equipment led to the infiltration bids getting detected and militants getting killed soon after crossing the LoC," sources added.
They said, "Inputs suggest that ISI has asked the militant handlers to send the militants into JK through plains so that they find it easy to sneak in."
"We are very much aware about the ISI machinations and are ready to deal with any kind of situation that may emerge due to militants shifting their focus on Jammu region," a top officer told Early Times.
Asked, why militants want to shift their focus on Jammu, he said, "The alert soldiers and other forces have squeezed their space in Kashmir and they (militants) are on the run. ISI is unable to digest that it has lost the 25-year old proxy war in Kashmir and the Indian Army has crushed the Pakistan sponsored militancy in Kashmir. ISI believes that by shifting its focus on Jammu it can create disturbance and trigger communal tension in Jammu region."
