After recent deaths, SMGSH turns out to be den for illicit medicines | | | A B Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, June 15: After the pregnant woman's death in SMGS hospital on June 1 which was orchestrated by both the SMGSH as well as GMCH to look as a natural death, skeletons have started tumbling out of the fossil cupboard of the health institution which is full of stinky and illicit records. The SMGSH is running a medicine mafia in the institution which is well aided by the administration also as the inputs received from the sources say that medicines purchased by the institutions never reach the SMGS hospital and instead remains in bills which are duly signed by the authorities at the helm. "This practice at galore in the institution since last more than ten years that the consignment of medicines approved by the health department as well other agencies to be supplied to the institution never reach the hospital while the bills duly signed and corroborated by the administrative officials of the hospital are duly maintained," said a doctor to Early Times. He said that patients are always advised to purchase the rugs from outside expressing unavailability of the medicine in the hospital. Such illegal transiting in the hospital have become the routine feature which is well supported bty the authorities at the helm, he said. Also there is an apparent deception that has been ruling the administrative set-up of the SMGS hospital as staff which has been posted in this institution is stationery there for more than ten years with no postings or transfers affected in the hospital. " Since the drug nexus is so strong in the institution that even from the laboratory assistant to store keeper in the hospital is enjoying its prized stationery posting in the department with no administrative check on it," said the doctor citing the reason that the lower hierarchy which is neck deep incorrupt practice of medicine trafficking in hospital has grown towering in the stature as the ministers as well as the bureaucratic officers feel helpless to effect their transfers or postings to some other place". However it on June 13, that on the floor of assembly the two MLAs , Chaudhay Akram from Surankote and the other Congress MLA from Banihal Viquar Rasool had raised a question seeking answer from the health minister to come clear on the corrupt practices in the SMGSH. Though the Minister was seemed to be caught on the wrong, foot, he however manipulated the answer with assurance to take the cognizance of the matter only. Health Minister could not come clear on the drug nexus in the hospital which led to the MLAs selling him time to look into the matter and set the procedure right or quit his ministry. |
