Rs 30 lakh CDF spent but Machail still without power | MLC demands vigilance inquiry | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Srinagar, June 15: Senior Congress leader and MLC has accused Power Development Department, Kishtwar, of allegedly swindling an amount of Rs 30 lakhs provided to it by him for electrification of Machail village in Padder tehsil of Kishtwar which hosts lakhs of pilgrims every year. While speaking in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today during a calling attention motion moved by him seeking details of Rs 30 lakh CDF provided by him to the department four years ago and added that the reply received by him from the government was shocking as it stated that the village had yet to get electricity and would be covered by RGGVY-II and DDUGJY and asked what happened to the CDF of Rs 30 lakhs and demanded a vigilance probe into the matter. He said that the department in last four years did not provide any information to him with regard to spending of his CDF. He said that the government reply stated that the department purchased 50 Nos of 9 Meter Long S T Poles, 8 KM ACSR Conductor and two 25 KVA transformers out of the said amount which were lying in PDD store. The reply stated that the department has completed LT network of 3.5 KM in the extremely hilly area of Machail Padder, beside had taken up laying of 11 KV Feeder from Gulabgard to Machail with two Kilometer line of the feeder has been completed. PDD minister, speaking on behalf of the government, assured that the matter would be looked into and added that they would issue directions to DC, Kishtwar, to submit a report in this regard. Not satisfied with the reply of the minister, the MLC insisted for vigilance probe into the matter and added that this was a scandal. He demanded that government should present the factual report in this regard during ongoing session. He also demanded recovery of the CDF amount with interest from the concern guilty officials so that same could be used for other welfare schemes. After heated arguments between the MLC and the minister, Deputy Chairman Jahinger Mir directed the government to ask DC, Kishtwar, to submit the inquiry report over the issue within 15 days. The minister later assured the MLC that government would table the report in the ongoing session and assured action against the guilty persons. The government reply also stated that 21 villages and 48 hamlets of Padder, including Machail, were not electrified even after 69 years of independence. |
