Desperate Omar wants Mehbooba to resign | Ex-CM fears defeat in Anantnag by-polls | | Saqib Junaid Early Times Report srinagar, June 15: After being out of power for a year, the desperate NC Working President Omar Abdullah wants fresh polls to be held in the state. He also expects defeat in the Anantnag by-polls saying that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was using state machinery to win the elections. Omar Abdullah led the NC-Congress government for six-years even though, his party had opposed of holding Assembly elections in the state in December 2014 but are now eagerly waiting for the fresh polls in the State. On Wednesday, while addressing a gathering, he said the PDP-BJP alliance was furthering a dangerous and divisive political agenda in J&K that could have far-reaching consequences for the State and its people. He asked the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to break-up the alliance with the BJP so that fresh polls are held. "RSS is running the government. Mehbooba should either deliver the promise or resign so that fresh polls are held," Omar said at a function at the party headquarters here in Srinagar. Omar's fresh attempt asking Mehbooba to resign is seen as the PDP-BJP going is marring with controversies and the NC wants to gain the political mileage out of it. He said the PDP had ended up breaking every single pre-election promise that the party used to garner votes and said PDP's recurring U-turns had created a sense of disillusionment and anxiety in the state. "This alliance has left no stone unturned to drive a wedge between the Muslims and Hindus in the State and the State Government is watching as a mute spectator as Muslims in Jammu are being harassed by those who are inimical to the State's inclusive and secular fabric," he accused. The NC Working President lashed out at the State Government for its "failure to dispense its basic duties and for making the people of the State to suffer because of its sheer indifference and incompetence". Here he didn't stop of criticizing the Mehbooba Mufti. Fearing defeat in the Anantnag bypolls that are slated to be held on July 22, Omar claimed that entire focus of the state administration is on somehow helping Chief Minister in her by-election from Anantnag. "Tons of sugar meant for the entire Valley was diverted to Anantnag while there is scarcity of sugar in the remaining areas. Sadly the people of Anantnag know that the Chief Minister's newfound benevolence will end with the completion of the election in Anantnag and that they too, like the rest of the State, will be left to the mercy of God." The NC leader said Mehbooba Mufti was "arrogant" by not seeking votes from the people. "She went Anantnag once that too for BeighSahab's function. She does not go to the people and seek the votes which shows her arrogance. People should take a note of it. If I would have been an ardent supporter of the PDP, I would have never voted for her. Voters can't be taken forgotten and she should at least seek the votes from the people." Omar Abdullah, who was the chief minister of the state before the PDP-BJP formed government in 2015, said people were facing immense inconvenience due to absence of basic facilities. "There is no ration, electricity, water available in the state. Government has completely failed to provide basic amenities to the people." |
