2010 Anantnag killings: HC seeks sanction status from Home Deptt in 2 weeks | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 15: The state high court has directed Commissioner Secretary Home Deptt to file status report about the sanction for prosecution to enable SIT file status report regarding the killing of two youths in Anantnag district of the south Kashmir in 2010. "Latest status report as filed again suggests that the filing of Challan (charge sheet) is awaiting the requisite sanction," said a single bench of the court comprising Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir. In his submission, Deputy Advocate General submitted that the file is pending for consideration before Commissioner Secretary home department. The court directed the commissioner secretary to file the latest status report about the sanction within two weeks. The court was hearing a petition filed by the families of the two victims, Bilal Ahmad Najar and Noor-ul-Amin Dugga who were killed on September 19, 2010 after police allegedly opened fire on the funeral procession of another youth Maroof Ahmad Nath whose body was recovered on the day, few days after he had drowned allegedly after being chased by security forces. In December 2013, the High Court had directed the Inspector General of Police Kashmir to constitute SIT headed by an officer not below the rank of Superintendent of Police. The police had initially refused to register an FIR, contending that a case was already registered with regard to the drowning incident. In November 2012, the high court had withdrawn the proceedings of the case from Chief Judicial Magistrate Anantnag for monitoring by it. |
