Pandits protest against sacrilegious act, disrupt movement of vehicular traffic at Dogra Chowk | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 6: Enraged over the recent sacrilegious act at Mata Tripursundri temple at Khanbarnan Devsar in South Kashmir district of Anantnag, all Kashmiri Pandit organisations irrespective of their political ideology held a massive demonstration in front of Jammu Press Club here and blocked the road for some time. There was a minor scuffle between police and protestors as the protestos raising slogans against the government did not allow traffic to move via Dogra Chowk. However the situation as brought under control soon and traffic restored on the road by police. The protestors while criticising the government for its failure in giving protection to Hindu shrines in Kashmir where two Shrines in last one month were desegregated thrice demanded action against the culprits under law. They also urged the government to ensure that no such incident takes place in future. Protesting over the desecration, vandalisation and theft of the temples in the Valley including the recent incident at Logripora Ashmuqam and Tripursundri Devsar temple Kulgam, they alleged that the government has totally failed in ensuing security of Hindu shrines in Kashmir. This incident of Devsar has been widely condemned by the entire Kashmir Pandit community and they showed their resentment against the Government, which has totally failed to protect and safeguard the temple properties in the Valley. The protestors said on the one hand the government has been making tall claims with regards to return and rehabilitation of community but has mercilessly failed to create a sense of security amongst the Kashmir Pandits. To prevent such despicable incidents, which have the potential of creating further distress between the two communities, the demonstrators vociferously demanded that since the successive governments have failed to enact the Temples and Shrine Bill for the last many years which has led to such incidents, a full proof and adequate security by establishing CRPF pickets at all such places. Demonstrators also demanded that the culprits should be brought to book immediately and exemplary punishment meted out, so as to send clear signals to the miscreants who are hell bent upon to disturbing peace in the Valley. Today's protest was demonstrative of the feeling of entire Kashmiri Pandit Community whose symbols of culture and religion are being threatened by the enemies of peace. The demonstrators also appealed to the government to take on board all the Kashmir Pandit organization for creating atmosphere of confidence in the community itself, which could prove helpful in the long run. The organisations who participated in the demonstration were All State Kashmir Pandit conference (ASKPC), Kashmir Pandit Sabha, Amphalla NC Minority Cell, All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, Lok Janshakti Party (LJPKPCC (IDP), KPIT, Shairka Peeth Sanstha, Shiv Shakti Sanstha, TRT Nagrota, Jagti, Samajik Vikas Sanasthan, Panun Kashmir (PK) and all social and religious organization. The speakers who gave vent to their anger against the apathy of government towards the desecration, looting of temples and neglecting the community problems were Adv Ravinder Raina (ASKPC), KK Khosa (KPS), MK Yogi President NC Minority Cell and others. The demonstrators along with youth took out a procession from Press Club to Dogra Chowk also. |
