Kishtwar, July 6: The eid celebrations passed off peacefully in the town here today amid tight security. While some people of Marwah and other areas of the district tried to raise anti-national slogans, they were stopped from doing so by others.
Official sources said when the eid procession was on its way from eidgah, Kishtwar, to the shrine of 17th century Sufi Saint Hazrat Shah Mohammad Fareed-ud-Din Baghdadi, some non locals made an attempt to raise anti-national slogans, but they were immediately stopped by others in the procession from doing so.
A senior police officer said that he did not want to comment on the issue as according to him the action of those who did not let the subversive elements to raise anti-national slogans is self explanatory and a strong message to those who want to destabilize peace and tranquility in the area and added that it is good sign that the vigilant youth are now confronting the miscreants on their own. This is the 3rd time in last two years when no anti-national sloganeering was witnessed in Kishtwar district on Eid day.
Earlier, several people from different walks of life participated in today's Eid Nimaz at Eidgah at Chowgan ground which concluded peacefully despite an alleged provocative attempt made by separatist leader Abdul Qayoom Mattoo.
While addressing the gathering, Mattoo raked up the controversial issue of beef ban and opposed the construction of parks in the names of minority community members who were killed while fighting militancy.
Reacting to his speech, a senior police officer said that they are analyzing the speech to find out if he could be booked under law or not. Elaborated security arrangements remained in place throughout the day today. Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Nabi Balwan, SSP Sandeep Kumar Wazir, ADC Kishori Lal Sharma, Dy. SP Irshad Ahmed Ahanger, Dy. SP HQ and other senior officers of civil and police administration remained present at all key locations till the eid procession was over.
