JAMMU, July 6: A police officer, who heads a police station in Jammu region as its SHO, is alleged to have sold off a huge quantity of drugs he had seized from drug peddlers last month. Police sources said the SHO last month laid hands on the drugs peddlers and seized a huge quantity of drugs from their possession. The seized drugs were valued at lakhs of rupees, the sources added. Sources alleged that the SHO distributed some drugs among his acquaintances and sold off most of the seized drugs for lakhs. While the SHO got benefitted from the sale of seized drugs, the unlawful act was also likely to help the accused because when lesser quantity of drugs "is shown to have been recovered from them, their cases become weaker in the court of law", sources alleged. The police station, he is heading, is said to be the most significant in Jammu region. He is termed as 'powerful' in police circles and allegedly enjoys good relations with his 'bosses' which is why no action is taken against him whenever someone lodges a complaint to them against him. "Though the senior officers know that he has sold off the seized drugs in the market, they have so far taken no action against him," sources alleged.
