Fire guts 5 hotels, 13 shops in Sonamarg | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 6: Thirteen shops and five hotels were gutted in a massive blaze at the central market in Sonamarg on Wednesday. The gutted structures include five hotels, three general stores, as many mobile phone shops, a medical store, three cloth shops, bakery, Daba and a vegetable shop. The local traders told Greater Kashmir that the lack of a fire tender in the area led to the massive damages. "Initially, the fire tender from Baltal reached the spot but it was not to enough to control the devastating fire," they said. By the time fire tenders from Ganderbal, Gund and Kangan fire stations reached at the spot, they said, the fire had already damaged the entire lane opposite Sumo stand. This is the second major fire incident in past six years. Most of the shop and hotel owners were away at their native places for Eid festival when the incident took place. Meanwhile, police said that they were investigating the cause of fire. |
