Kashmiris must come under a joint platform: Cong | Jammu, Ladakh don't matter | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 29: The Congress has come out with a nasty suggestion and said its suggestion, if accepted by the so-called mainstream Kashmiri political parties and separatists, will force New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir people. It has, in effect, proposed that "Kashmir's mainstream and separatist leadership talk to each other and come under a joint platform whose only objective will be to advocate the resolution of the Kashmir issue. Separatists would not have to give up their aspirations". It has further said: "Mainstream politicians can continue their mainstream politics. Kashmiris can stick to any political ideology they want - independence, India or Pakistan. Nobody has to give up anything. But, everybody has to come under a joint action program of putting moral pressure on India and Pakistan to help resolve the Kashmir issue to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. If Kashmiris show unity of purpose on this one issue, it would represent the best course of action for our future generations. Seeking a resolution through peaceful advocacy, would be unobjectionable to all but the most unreasonable people. Kashmiri Pandits could join their Muslim brothers and sisters in this endeavour because they would not have to give up their own political preferences. In fact, all the people of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir could become part of this movement because this issue affects all of us". It's true that the Congress never treated Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India to the same extent as other states of the Union. That was the reason it incorporated Article 370 and Article 35A in the Indian Constitution to drive the state away from the national mainstream and create a high wall between the Muslims of Kashmir and rest of the Indians. That was the reason it involved Sheikh Abdullah in the accession process despite the fact that he had no locus standi in the matter and that the Maharaja of the state alone had the power to decide his state's fate. That was the reason it entered into an accord with Sheikh Abdullah in 1974 that empowered him to review the central laws introduced in the state after August 9, 1953. The Congress, like the BJP, did many other things to hold the Kashmiri Muslims aloof from the national mainstream and the people of the state are aware of all of like they are aware of what the BJP had been doing to get the state out of the political and constitutional organization of India after winning Jammu's mandate in 2014. But the Congress was never so brazen as it has today turned. By suggesting what it suggested, the Congress has proved that its credentials are no different from those outfits which have been preaching sedition since decades and pitching for the state's separation from India. The people of Jammu and Ladakh, who voted for the Congress a number of times and brought it into power, have noted this nasty suggestion of the Congress. In fact, they have denounced it and sought action against it. There is no doubt that the Congress would pay a very heavy price for the crime it committed. The people of Jammu and Ladakh can digest everything but not an affront to their self-respect. |
