PDP-BJP differ over termination of anti-national employees | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Differences have emerged between the PDP and its coalition partner BJP over termination of employees who are participating in the ongoing protest agitation in the Valley. Sources said the government has received the reports from police's CID wing about the employees who have been participating in the violent protests in the Valley. Sources said the government has decided to take harsh steps against some employees after sending warning them "not to be part of anti-India protests" in Kashmir and refrain from "fuelling" the unrest in the Valley. "Recently a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary B R Sharma where it was decided to terminate employees who have been actively participating in anti-India protests and stone pelting without sending them any show-cause notices. It was decided that Cabinet will take the final call. But the PDP has opposed their termination at this stage while BJP wants that anti-national employees should be immediately sacked," a senior government official said. "Directions have been passed to departmental heads of various departments to take further action against these employees. The list has been finalized but we are waiting for the final nod from the government," the official said. He said the Cabinet meeting was also postponed for the last few days in view of the differences between India and Pakistan. For the last over 80 days since the unrest triggered in the Valley on July 8, police has launched a manhunt and arrested dozens of employees who were alleged part of protests involved in anti-national sloganeering and stone pelting incidents. Police and departmental heads have also summoned various government employees and warned them not to be part of the current unrest in the Valley. Earlier, police had framed a list of over 200 employees who have been allegedly part of unrest in the Valley and many were arrested. "But this time government has gone ahead by not only arresting some employees but terminate them from services on the charges of being involved in anti-national activities," a PDP leader said. "The termination of these employees has only got delayed due to differences between the PDP and BJP," he said. Government had earlier arrested several employees' leaders when they were staging demonstrations, demanding ban on use of pellet guns in the Valley and were lodged in various jails for weeks before being released on bail earlier this month. Government has been pressurizing employees to attend their duties amid turmoil in Kashmir and has directed them several times to attend their duties forthwith or their salaries won't be released. Despite that majority of employees have stayed away from their duties in view of the prevailing situation and offices witness minimal attendance of employees. |
