Infiltration bid foiled, cop hurt in encounter | | | MS Nazki Early Times Report
Poonch, Sept 29 : A major infiltration bid by militants was foiled by army from the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sub-sector early this morning while a gunfight raged in Mankote forests in the afternoon in which a cop was injured. An army official said a major infiltration bid was foiled by the troopers of 1st Maha Regiment at Roshni Post in Krishna Ghati sector after they noticed the movement of militants at about 3 am today. "The alert troopers kept the suspected JeM terrorists engaged in a gunfight near the fence till 8 am and foiled their attempt to sneak in," he said. The official said the Pakistani army in an attempt to help the intruders fired on Indian troopers. The fire was returned effectively. "The infiltration bid has been successfully foiled and the search operation is underway," he said. Meanwhile, a gunfight raged in Mankote forests of Mendhar between troops and militants this afternoon. SDPO, Mendhar, Shahid Nayeem said the encounter between 4-5 militants and forces was still on. "SOG and army's 37 and 39 RR are engaged in the operation. The fire is coming from three sides and we will neutralize them very soon," he said, adding that one SPO identified as Talib Hussain got injured in the encounter. In the meanwhile, at least 15 cops, who were on way to encounter site at Mankote, met with an accident near Chhad, resulting in injuries to 10 of them. They were rushed to hospital. Cops -- Nisar Ahmad and Inayyatullah -- were later referred to DH, Rajouri. |
