Shame! As India strikes, former JU V-C talks LOC trade | | | Ali Yusuf Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 29: In utter disregard for the anguish and prevailing sentiment in the Country against Pakistan in the backdrop of the killing of eighteen Jawans in Uri earlier this month, a former VC of JU, who is presently occupying a significant position in the coalition Government shamelessly addressed a Workshop in Kargil to promote LoC trade with the hostile neighbour. The Workshop was organised by the Department of Defence Studies of the Central University of Jammu and surprisingly the VC CUJ, an appointee of the NDA Government, who too addressed the gathering went a step further and advocated even opening of motor roads through the Gilgit areas. A senior professor in the CUJ told ET that while the Prime Minister only two days ago chaired a meeting to scrap the Most Favoured Business Nation Status to Pakistan and the SAARC countries came out in support of India; it is utterly disturbing and shocking that the CUJ and the former VC JU have shown no respect to the martyrs and initiatives of a concerned Prime Minister. Sources in the CUJ revealed that the seminar was the initiative of the Department of Defence Studies Of CUJ which is headed by a close associate of the influential former JU VC and herself a backdoor entry. Interestingly, a JU professor, who is a part of the JNU pro- Pakistan seminar circuit, giving no importance to his own university, participated in the said seminar while JU was under inspection by NAAC. It is pertinent to mention here that while all leaves and deputations were put on hold and JU even functioned on holidays for NAAC preparation, this professor was attending a seminar which was against the prevailing public sentiment across the country. It deserves a mention that former home secretary of India and presently a BJP MP recently recommended to the government to scrap the barter trade across LoC as it was major sources of pumping in hawala money from Pakistan which was used for terror funding in India. A former professor of the JU, who is has demanded strict action against the erring professor and also questioned the role of VC CUJ and the former VC JU in completely ignoring the prevailing situation and holding such a seminar at a sensitive place like Kargil. "I urge the chancellor to order a probe into the matter and take appropriate action against the guilty" he said pleading anonymity. |
