Fear sparks massive migration in border areas | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 29: Ahead of the festival season, a large number of people have had to migrate from villages near the International Border in anticipation of Pakistani shelling in the wake of Indian army's surgical strikes on terror launching pads across the Line of Control. Though the exact number of people who migrated to safer places was not immediately known, hundreds of families from various border areas along Samba, Arnia, Bisnah, RS Pura, Akhnoor, Palanwala shifted to safer places. Meanwhile, educational institutions across Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch were closed down by the district authorities to allow the displaced population to shift to safer places. The police and paramilitary forces were deployed to beef up security in and around border areas to check any untoward incident. Meanwhile, the Indian army authorities have also redrawn their strategy to tackle the threat from Pakistan. The soldiers have been directed to carry out round the clock patrolling and maintain tight vigil along the border fence to prevent fresh infiltration bids. Meanwhile, tension has gripped villages situated near the border in both the frontier districts of Rajouri and Poonch. People were seen doing panic shopping, apprehending that they may have to leave their homes for safer places. Directions have been issued by the civil administrations to vacate villages in both the district falling within a range of 10 kilometers from LoC. Army has also advised the villagers near the LoC not to venture out after 5 pm and also directed students to be careful as Pakistan army may resort to unprovoked firing/mortar shelling at any time. In another major development army has asked the porters to leave the army units to avoid any fatality and also cancelled the leaves of the soldiers and officers. Meanwhile, Shabir Ahmed Bhat, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, said all the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Additional SPs, Tehsildars and Station House Officers (SHOs) have been directed to shift the border people to safer places. "Leaves of all the doctors have been cancelled and necessary directions have been issued to the BMOs to make necessary arrangements of beds, medicines and ambulances at the health centres situated near the border areas in the district," said Dr Mohd Youis, CMO. Indian army has also identified many more targets for their future action if Pakistan didn't stop its activities including cease fire violations, pushing of trained terrorists inside Indian territory. Meanwhile DC Jammu Simrandeep Singh talking to Early Times said that within five Kms from border, people have been asked to leave for safer places. He further said camps have been set up in different areas and people have been asked to take all precautionary measures due to tension with the neighbouring country.
