Tribute paid to Brig Rajinder Singh

Jammu, Oct 26: Brig. Rajinder Singh was remembered to his native village Bagoona in Samba District.
On his 70th Shaheedi Diwas floral tributes were paid to the great martyr.
Brigadier Rajinder Singh Commander- in Chief of Maharaja Hari Singh's Army with 100 troops held the Pakistani raiders for two days at Uri till the last man, making the supreme sacrifice of his life on the night of 26-27 October 1947.
After demolishing Uri Bridge, he fought delaying actions at Uri, Mahura and Rampur inflicting heavy casualties to gain four days till he was ambushed at Buniyar. Indian Army landed within six hours after his last action to save the State.
He was the first recipient of Maha Veer Chakra in independent India, when he was awarded the honor posthumously by the then Army Chief K.M. Carriappa.

Menanwhile While paying tributes to Brig Rajinder Singh and his gallant comrades who had saved the State in 1947, Vikramaditya Singh recalled his supreme sacrifice for the future generations for emulation as he said even today the firing is going on, on the borders just 20 kms away from the city.
Today J&K is part of India, called the Crown of India, is all due to the sacrifices of the Dogra Army and we are happy that J&K Ex-Services League with the help of the Army and Civil Administration pays homage every year at this sacred place.
J&K Ex-Services League celebrated Accession Day by paying Homage to Brig Rajinder Singh, MVC "The Saviour of Kashmir" and recipient of first Gallantry Award of Independent India at Jammu on 26 Oct 2016.
He gave numerous examples of the Dogra valor, steadfastness and loyalty which distinguishes the Dogra Soldier from the rest, appreciated by the British and even by the Japanese in World War II.
Gulchain Singh Charak, President Dogra Sadar Sabha and former Minister J&K Govt. as usual not only highlighted the Dogras' contribution in making the history but also exhorted the historians and the Govt. for recording it properly and including it in the School curriculum so as to motivate the coming generations to save the country from any eventualities as is happening today on our borders.
Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, President J&K Ex-Services League thanked the Army, Veterans and the Members of the Civil Society who joined in paying homage to Brig Rajinder Singh and thousands of martyrs who had laid down their lives since 1947.
