Ahead of Diwali, BJP Minister's loyal CAO withholds payments 10/26/2016 11:15:04 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 26: The contractors who have executed various developmental works in Jammu city are waiting for their payments desperately and with just two days left for Diwali and the Chief Accounts Officer of the Jammu Municipal Corporation is allegedly keeping away from his office. "The contractors are running from pillar to post to get their payments, some of which are struck for over two years, but the chief accounts officer, who approves the release of payments is deliberately keeping off from the office" said a contractor pleading not to be named. They also alleged that the CAO deliberately stays away and releases payments only in favour of those contractors who are politically connected. "The contractors who get a call made by a politician or a Minister get their payments released, while others have to wait for months and as a result, payments worth tens of crores of the contractors is pending for long" he added. Sources allege that the CAO is close to a senior Minister of the coalition government and has been appointed in the JMC at his behest. "We complained to a senior officer of the department of Accounts and Treasuries who expressed his helplessness in acting against the CAO and blatantly told that he is point man of the senior BJP Minister and hence he could not act against him".
