JU's double standards: Low paid employees punished, senior officials honoured
10/26/2016 11:14:45 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 26: In Jammu University, the low paid employees are subjected to stern disciplinary action even over trivial issues while the highly paid employees get compassionate treatment notwithstanding their recklessness and dereliction of duties.
Criticizing the double standards adopted by the university administration to harass low paid employees and keep officers and teaching faculty in good humor, sources said that during the tenure of incumbent Vice Chancellor, a number of wrongdoings have surfaced.
For example, the Special Secretary to incumbent VC, Prof JK Sharma was found involved in library book scam. But instead of initiating any action against him, he was awarded with prize posting as Director, College Development Council. "There was availability of senior and competent officers in the varsity, but still the tainted officer was given the prize posting," said sources.
Citing another example wherein the varsity administration deviated from the established statutory norms, sources said the Controller of Examination Sanjeev Mahajan failed to ensure declaration of results within 45 days. But the administration did not take an action against the officer for the reasons best known to them.
Sources further maintained that the course of Political Science had to be closed down in mid-session by University Grants Commission (UGC) due to negligence of its Coordinator Dr. VVV Nagendra Rao in DDE, causing mental trauma to students for none of their fault.
"Despite lapse of more than a year, the university administration never dared to take action against Rao as the former has soft corner for the teaching faculty," said sources.
The administration also failed to initiate action against Coordinator Economics Dr. Jasbir Singh who committed official lapse for allotting lesson writing of MA Economics for the course not prescribed in the syllabus of semester III and IV. However, the teacher who wrote the lesson was paid out of the way by the university, leaving coordinator economics unharmed.
Sources asked that if the university authorities were quick enough to initiate action placing all the four IV class employees under suspension for irregularities, what stopped the VC from taking action against these defaulters sitting on responsible chairs.
Sources further stated that the administration of justice demands one yardstick as per rules while dealing with erring employees.
