Kathua Oct 26: in a bid to tighten its noose on violators of the various provisions of the J&K Excise Act in entire Jammu division, the sleuths of Excise Department Jammu conducted raids in Kathua and arrested three persons besides destroying over 1250 kgs (1.2 Quintal) of raw material used for extracting illicit liquors "The arrested have been identified namely as Mangal Singh son of Kartar Chand of Mirpurjaggu, Kathua, Som Nath son of Roop Lal of Chakdrabkhan, Kathua and Bikram son of Poki of Ghati Rajbagh Kathua, were arrested under section 48 of J&K Excise Act, 1958," official said. According to official spokesperson, under the active supervision of the Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Mohammed Shahid Saleem, the Excise Team Kathua under the command of ETO Excise Range Kathua, Sandeep Gupta and ETO Eradication & Enforcement Wing Jammu Suresh Sharma raided the Mirpurjaggu, Dadoli, Chakdrabkhan, Keengdayal and Budhi areas of Kathua district to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liquor. "In the process more than 1250 kilo grams of material used for Lahan, 110 bottles and 125 pouches of illicit liquor made from Lahan were destroyed by the team on spot. "Three person namely Mangal Singh of Mirpurjaggu, Kathua, Som Nath of Chakdrabkhan, Kathua and Bikram of Ghati Rajbagh Kathua, were arrested by the team during the raids for their involvement in extracting illicit liquor, he added. Official said that the raiding team also recovered and confiscated three working stills (units), established by the arrested persons for preparation of illicit liquor -lahan, which were later destroyed on spot by the raiding team. |
