PDA's demolition squad attacked at Lidru, 1 hurt | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Anantnag, Oct 26: An employee of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) was injured on Wednesday when some people attacked its demolition squad at Lidru, Pahalgam, near here. A PDA official said a team of PDA was demolishing illegal structures in Lidru area when some people resisted and attacked the squad. Tariq Ahmad Malik, a PDA helper, sustained injuries and was being treated at the district hospital, Anantnag. "The hooligans armed with bamboo sticks beat up our squad members," said Chief Executive Officer (CEO), PDA, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani. He said that demolition squad was thrashed and made hostage by the offenders for hours together "They made our employees hostage, following which I sought help from Pahalgam police but the mob attacked police party as well," he added. Sources said local Gujjar families at the behest of a State Bank official attacked the squad. "We know that the State Bank official is the owner of the land which is currently being fenced. He is planning to construct a hotel in the village which we will not allow at any cost," a PDA official said, wishing not to be named. Locals alleged that two women had fallen unconscious during the demolition drive. A police officer said a case had been registered against the people who attacked the demolition squad. It is pertinent to mention here that J&K High Court has imposed a blanket ban on constructions at Pahalgam, following a PIL filed by Peoples Welfare Organization, Pahalgam. |
