Girls Hostel Row: AE, PWD, Contractor among three injured in scuffle; 8 booked

Rajouri, Oct 26: Five including Assistant Engineer (AE) of PWD and contractor were injured when some locals stone pelted officials over the construction of a Girls Hostel in village Piri in Darhal Assembly Constituency in Rajouri district. Meanwhile police have booked eight persons for assaulting government officials.
"The accused have been identified as Sunil Singh and his father Pooran Singh, Rachpal Singh, Palam Singh Rattan Singh sons of Bharat Singh, Ratna Devi w/o Rachpal Singh, Ujjala Devi w/o Parlahd Singh and his son Pinkoo, police sources said. According to police sources, in the month of September, Ch Zulfikar Al had laid the foundation stone at Piri for the construction of Girls Hostel reportedly on the Khahcharai (Pasture ) land in consent with the locals. "Later PWD allotted the construction work of the hostel building to Bashir Ahmed Bhat contractor from Rajouri town who pressed JCB machine to level the uneven ground and no objection was raised by any villager, sources added. "The contractor along with his assistant Sat Pal and Jamal Din, AE, PWD today went to the spot for the measurement of the leveled land to start the construction work, police sources added. They said, "Some villagers objected the construction work and demanded compensation for the two shops which are subjected to be bulldozed for creating approach road to said hostel." Police sources said, "A shop owner Rattan Singh and his family members objected the work and demanded compensation. "This led to a verbal dispute between the AE, contractor and Rattan Lal and other family members and villagers, sources added. "The heated arguments later took ugly turn when two sides started pelting stones on each other in which contractor Mohd Bashir Bhat, his assistant Sat Pal , Jamal Din, AE, Sadam Hussain and Basharat Hussain got injured and later were shifted to District Hospital for medical treatment, sources added. On getting information of clash police party led by Abdul Majid , in-charge Piri police post rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. Police official said, "Following written complaint of Jamal Din, AE-PWD, a case against eight persons of the village u/s 353/147 & 382 RPC has been registered and investigations are on. All the accused are absconding and manhunt has been launched to nab them" said in-charge Piri police post.
