Rs 1.5 cr 'wasted' on Balley bridge restoration | Bridge restored 5 times in 2 yrs | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 26: An amount of over Rs 1.5 cr is alleged to have been wasted by R&B division, Shopian, on the restoration of Balley bridge on Rambiara nallah at Trenz. The work is shown to have done by the department five times in two years. During a joint surprise check in the office of executive engineer, R&B division, Shopian, a team of Vigilance Organisation, Kashmir (VOK), established that the Balley Bridge had been constructed by the department without any administrative approval and technical sanction. The bridge was found collapsed and had not been designed at all before constructing it, according to VOK sources. The surprise check also revealed that in the last two years, the restoration had been shown done five times. Rs 82.64 lakh were shown to have been spent on the construction of 2x24 mt span bridge. Rs 34.46 lakh were spent on the construction of stone masonry abutment in wire crates with RCC jacketing for 2x24 mt bridge. This was followed by the construction of a crate bund at a cost of Rs 4.92 lakh. Restoration of washed away causeway by way of RBM filling, laying of RCC pipes and crate protection works was done at a cost of Rs 10.67 lakh. The department again spent Rs 17.48 lakh on permanent restoration by way of construction of RCC approach walls and nallah protection work of 7x20 mt Rambiara Bridge. "Thus during the course of joint surprise check, an amount of Rs 150.17 lakh was found wasted. Instead the R&B division should have proposed a permanent bridge. The R&B division was also found to have spent crores of rupees on other spots of the nallah at Batpopra and other areas," sources said. Detailed verification had been taken up in hand by VOK, the sources added. |
