Sluggish JU admin fails to continue BEd course | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: The incumbant dispensation of Jammu University has the dubious distinction of stopping two postgraduate courses in Distance Education Department with no effort for their restoration, but it too utterly failed to continue B. Ed. Course for students despite its ample scope available for the same. Sources said that it is the basic responsibility and legitimate duty of any university to open new vista of opportunities widening the scope in different disciplines in the field of education, but university of Jammu instead of following this ambitious pattern has preferred to remain unmoved to impress upon its own Directorate of Distance Education to continue B.Ed course depriving several students of this opportunity for none of their fault. Sources informed that no serious efforts were made to re-start B.Ed course for the session 2015--17 and 2016-18 which continues to hang in the balance due to non-seriousness of the varsity administration, though this course was being offered in the Distance Education Department earlier. Although university administration was well aware of new guidelines fixed by the University Grants Commission as well as the eligibility criteria in consonance with new rules yet university was neither able to fulfill the same for unknown reasons, sources informed. They further said that as per new rules, new eligibility was to be fixed for admission to B.Ed and minor changes were to be made in the existing syllabus. It was told that Diploma in ETT is to be added in eligibility and reframing of existing syllabus needs to be made, sources added. As if there is no well placed system of accountability for lapses on the part of faculty member, varsity administration has yet not been able to fix the responsibility of the Course Coordinator to continue the course in DDE, sources said. It was the basic responsibility of the Coordinator to compile study material and fulfill the eligibility criteria as desired by UGC, sources informed, adding that B.Ed Coordinator has not taken his job seriously, who has been teaching Hindi instead of doing his mandatory job. Lambasting JU administration for evincing casual approach and not taking new rules seriously, sources further told that earlier Kashmir University was offering one year B.Ed course, but after new rules were introduced by the University Grants Commission, KU fulfilled requisite formalities and now it is offering two year course there, though JU still has to come out of the slumber to think about it. |
