Police arrests 21 allegedly involved in 'schools burning', SIT constituted | Chip fitted weapons in place to evade weapon snatching, DIG South Kashmir Range | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Nov 1: Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range on Tuesday said that police has arrested as many as 21 culprits for burning schools in three south Kashmir districts and has framed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for probing these incidents. DIG, SKR Nitish Kumar briefing media in Anantnag today, said that police has so far booked 21 culprits for burning schools in Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopain districts in South Kashmir. He informed that Police have also detained as many as 20 more people who are said to be involved in school burning incidents. "21 culprits have been booked and more 21 have been detained for questioning," he said, adding law will take its own course and culprits will be given stern punishment warranted by the law of the land. DIG said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been framed to probe all school burning incidents and special police teams have been sent off to Jammu and Chandigarh for arresting those culprits who are evading arrests. "A SIT (Special Investigation Team) has been framed which will probe all these incidents besides it special teams have been sent off to Jammu, Chandigarh and other cities for arresting those culprits who are evading arrest and are on run," he added. DIG Nitish Kumar also claimed that police is receiving overwhelming response from cross sections of society who are concerned and terrified by school burning likes incidents. Pertinent to mention here, Anantnag district alone has lost four school buildings in mysterious fire incidents. In Kulgam and Shopain, Schools buildings were also targeted by miscreants and set ablaze. Trend is worrying and every citizen must come forward to protect these social and community assets," District police has also been directed to intensify night patrolling particularly around the schools. Referring to spurt in weapon snatching incidents, DIG Mr Kumar said that chip fitted weapons are in place to minimize these incidents. "We have started allotting chip fitted weapons to our Jawans. This will not only minimize the weapon snatching incidents but will help police to track the weapon snatcher's location which ultimately will help us to nab the culprits," he said. Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Syed Aabid Rashid told media yesterday after visiting damaged schools. Chief Education Officer Anantnag, Ghulam Rasool told Early Times he on the directions of Deputy Commissioner has put non-teaching staff on high alert and has asked them to ensure their stay in the schools round the clock. |
