Students slam Edu minister for leaving them in lurch | 'We don't have admit cards, centre notices, roll no. slips' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 1: The verbal duel between separatist leader Yasin Malik and Education Minister Naeem Akhtar Andrabi continues with allegations and counter allegations dominating the scenes amid the turbulence faced by the perturbed student community over date of exams. As the government issued date sheet for Class 10th and Class 12th and declared first date of exams as November 15, the Education Ministry is yet to declare how much syllabus the students have to cover. There is also no word about the issuance of admit cards and roll number slips. The centre notices too haven't been issued till date due to which the student fraternity and parents at large are in a fix about whether the government has decided to go ahead with the annual exams or same would be deferred. However, what is annoying the common people in general and the student community in particular is the war of words going on between the separatists and the Education Minister. "The Education minister would have done well if such allegations and counter allegations wouldn't have been there. Instead of wasting time, he should have strived to provide relief to the students who have been the worst victims of this year's unrest," says Bisma Shah, a south Kashmir resident appearing in class 10th exams. JKLF chief Yasin Malik on Tuesday came down heavily on Akhtar. According to Malik, Akhtar, known in the media as 'Birbal', was a supporter of the separatist agitation in Kashmir and it was he who used to write articles for Kashmir's independence under various pseudonyms. "Naeem Akhtar and his government are playing with the lives and careers of lakhs of students by playing politics on education and exams and if he has some humanity left, he should refrain from his arrogant anti-Kashmiri politics," Malik said. "It was Naeem Akhtar who along with other officers like Ghulam Nabi Mubarki, Muzaffar Ahmad Khan (director handicrafts), Abdul Hameed Matoo (Chief engineer), Ishtiyaq Qadri and Abdul Salam (administrator municipality) and others in September 1990 pushed this nation for a 72 day long Hartal that too for their own purpose as they had been dismissed from services by governor of that time," JKLF said in a statement. As the student community has been desperately waiting for the relief of some sort from the Education Minister, his verbal spat with the separatists is marring the entire process. "Education Minister should have been in the forefront in telling what needs to be done. Instead of remaining with the student community, he is engaging himself in a worthless war with the separatists," said Mukhtar Ahmad, a parent in Srinagar. |
