Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 1: The crime branch of police has booked three persons, including a patwari, in a fraud case. CB has registered a case against Mohammad Shafi, proprietor of Chowdhary Trading Company, then patwari of Niabat Bari Brahmna, Ajay Atri, son of Sardari Lal of Traith Morh, Talab Datta, Bari Brahmna, and Ram Saroop, son of Gian Chand of Rani Talab, Digiana, under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of RPC for intentionally and by misrepresenting the facts had got identified some wrong land showing it to be under his ownership and possession by way of a registered sale deed before the bank officials and secured a limit of Rs 30 lakh and later turned NPA. Sandeep Gupta, senior manager of Canara Bank, Bari Brahmana, had lodged a written complaint in this connection with CB, alleging therein that Shafi had approached the bank for grant of cash credit limit of Rs 30 lakh with sub-limit of Rs 5 lakh repayable alongwith interest at the rate of 13.95 pc with security of hypothecation of stocks, book debts and collateral security in the shape of land measuring one kanal falling under Khasra No 166 min, khata No 231 min and khewat No 24 situated at Smailpur, Bari Brahmna, opposite KFC having a two shops constructed over it, which were got identified by him. Accordingly, a CC limit was sanctioned in his favour in February 2015 and necessary mortgage deed was executed and registered before sub-registrar, Samba. A sale deed duly registered in respect of the mortgaged property was also produced by Shafi before the bank and the amount was dispersed to him and lien on the mortgaged property was got marked through the revenue department. It was alleged that Shafi thereafter didn't pay the instalments and his account was declared NPA and process was initiated to recover the amount from his mortgaged assets but when the revenue authorities were approached for the identification of the mortgaged property, the property shown by the concerned patwari was found to be totally different having no market value than the property mortgaged with the bank, which clearly showed that Shafi, by adopting fraudulent means and misrepresenting the facts, had misled the bank and secured a limit of Rs 30 lakh, thereby cheating the bank by committing fraud and forgery.
