Prof Dass spent 1.32 lac on China 'holiday' | Study Tour or Holiday Trip! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: The 'upright' Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu (JU), Prof Ramji Dass Sharma, who claims to be an apostle of honesty spending singlest of penny out of the varsity exchequer wisely and meaningfully, spent Rs 1.25 lac from the varsity funds on visit to China but failed to yield the utility of same for the institution and ultimately turned out to be a just leisure trip. Sources revealed that Prof Ramji Dass, the then Rector of Kathua Campus of JU, visited China on the invitation of India China Alliance Centre, New Delhi in 2007 and the entire expenditure to the tune of Rs 1,32,170/- was borne by the University. "Prof Ramji Dass Sharma undertook the visit to China in his capacity as Rector Kathua Campus and the expenditure was debited from funds allotted to the Kathua Campus (Vide No: KC/JU/07/177-78)," sources disclosed. They further said that Prof Ramji Dass Sharma had detailed discussion with the then Vice Chancellor and told him that the visit would provide him an opportunity to familiarize with the prevailing scenario in China in terms of higher education and also for exploring the possibility of collaborative academic arrangements. "The visit (Second Mission to China for Business Schools & Institutes of Engineering and Technology) held from March 12-18, 2007. Since then, more than nine years have lapsed but Prof Ramji Dass Sharma has failed to utilize the expertise he gained out of the visit. He also failed to evolve collaborative academic arrangement with regard to Chinese educational institutions," a senior professor of JU commented. He further said that Prof Ramji Dass Sharma just wasted the funds of Kathua Campus for merry making as he just wanted an opportunity to visit China and was least worried about any expertise gain and its further utilization in JU. "The visit was a peculiar as the entire expenditure was borne by Jammu University for no reason. Had he been an expert of his subject he would had been invited by the institutions/institution of China and not like this where the visitor spend money out of his pocket (JU exchequer)," he said while flaying the then Vice Chancellor for according sanction to the visit. A senior officer of JU also flayed the Vice Chancellor for following double standards on 'uprightness/honesty'. "He claims himself to be an upright person but disclosure related to his China visit has exposed his uprightness before all. He spent Rs 1.32 lac of Varsity on a visit but didn't share any expertise he gained out of the trip. It proves that he only made merry at the cost of Kathua Campus funds which is highly disgusting and shameful," senior JU officer commented. He advised the Vice Chancellor (the then Rector Kathua Campus) to share the knowledge he gained out of his visit to China with the faculty and officers of the Jammu University, if he still held some sense of morality within himself. Pertinent to mention that an information seeker had sought Log Book details of the official vehicle of Prof Ramji Dass Sharma of the period when he was Rector Kathua Campus but the log book went missing raising suspicion. |
