SRINAGAR, Nov 26: People in J&K are craving for basic requirements, with Chief Minister's grievance cell receiving hundreds of complaints every day. The people have chosen to lodge complaints with the 'Awaz-e-Awam' (the online grievance mechanism of the CM) as the ministers have been giving cold shoulder to the grievances of the people. Most of the ministers seem invisible on the ground and people have been craving for basic amenities of life. "We have been moving from pillar to the post for several years to get a new transformer for our area but to no avail. We have now lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister's grievance cell to get the problem solved. Awaz-e-Awam is now the only hope for us to get new transformer as the officials, ministers and our local MLA turned a blind eye towards us," Abdul Rahim, a resident of Baramulla, said. According to the details available with grievance cell, it has been found that people have been facing shortage of potable water, electricity and medicine in hospitals. According to the sources, the grievance cell has received complaints about non-availability of food items and have been seeking macdamization of roads and by-lanes in cities and facing drainage problem which have not been addressed so far. Besides grievances for basis amenities, it has also received complaints of embezzlement of funds in several departments and encroachments at the tourist destinations. There were also some complaints against the hike in fee structure in schools. The grievance cell has also received some complaints of corruption and wrong doings in various departments. The grievance cell was set up by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in August 2009 to address the grievances of masses. Since then the process is continuing where officials are receiving the grievances from the people although some modification has been made in it and are being called by various names. An official said they have disposed of 90 percent of the complaints received since 2009. He said they have received thousands general complaints for the last seven years but only some were entertained while rest were either found un-authentic or there was some lack of information. Some departments like PDD, Health, PHE, have received over a thousand complaints each for the past around seven years. He said the grievance cell has turned an effective tool as officials take the complaints very seriously when they come from Chief Minister's office. "No official can ignore it and has to give his reply to the complaint," he said. |
