Political workers grab land in Rajouri | Revenue minister remains silent | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Nov 26: Some ruling party workers have grabbed government land in the name of construction of places of worship in Rajouri district. Official sources in the Revenue Department said massive chunks of government land in the district have been grabbed by the workers on pretext that they would utilize the space for construction of worship places. Sources said while the Revenue officials including Patwaris and Girdhawars facilitate mutation of government land records to be used for religious purpose, senior officials put their stamp on such decisions and never verify the utility of the land. Citing an example, the officials said in Nohoti area of Sunderbani, a powerful worker from the ruling party got state land allotted for construction of a religious place and some shelters for poor and other downtrodden people. Sources said a major chunk of land falling under khasra number 61 and measuring 10.5 kanals was mutated for use as religious place. "But no such construction ever came up on the site. The political worker plans to utilize it for real estate business," sources said. Insiders said in a bid to divert attention of the authorities, the political worker might construct a small worship place at one of the corners of the land and will utilize the remaining land for real estate and other business. Sources said the political workers have started deliberations with "members of a particular community" who run some worship places in the area to meet their ulterior motives. "This is one of the biggest land scams in the state. Even though the minister concerned was informed about it, he remained silent, which simply hints at loot of state land in the state," said an official pleading anonymity. The aggrieved residents said even though they picked up the issue of land grab with the authorities concerned, no action was taken. "Though a team of officials visited the site, they were subsequently taken by the political worker to his home. Thereafter the inquiry vanished into thin air," the residents said. They appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to order a Vigilance probe in the land scam. |
