Slain cops get heroic farewell in Kulgam | Militants made to eat humble pie | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: What made militant groups and separatists to eat humble pie on Saturday was the participation of thousands of people in the funeral processions of two cops who were killed by militants in south Kashmir's Kulgam. Reports said no less than 10,000 people took part in the funeral of one of the slain cops, Tanvir Ahmad, who was killed while he was performing his duties. Tanvir hails from south Kashmir's remote hamlet Kanipora. The funeral prayers of another cop namely Jalaluddin Khandey witnessed no less number of participants than of Tanvir, with people from far of villages coming to offer condolences with Khandey's family and pray for his departed soul. Khandey is survived by his wife and two children, Hoor-un-Nisa, 5, and Inamulhaq who is six months old. The militants attacked a police party in Kulgam on Friday in which both the cops were killed and another cop Shamsuddin was critically injured. Condemning what people termed a 'cowardly act', the death of the two cops in their native areas was widely mourned with voices of concern over such a situation being heard from all sides. People questioned militants the way they have been widely murdering innocent people sans any justification. People who in thousands took part in the funeral processions of the two cops were heard saying in unison that the duo was noble souls and never in their lives harassed any person. "They were rather the most helpful people. They used to extend helping hand to the needy. We really don't know why such noble souls were killed that too with no remorse at all," locals in Kulgam said. A senior official of the district said that such scenes are enough for anyone to understand that violence no longer is an acceptable entity in Kashmir and that the people have had enough while witnessing the innocents being murdered in the name of 'fight for freedom'. Meanwhile, what made the separatist groups to eat humble pie is that so far they were seen eulogising every militant act while terming them Freedom Fighters of Kashmir. Witnessing such wide condemnation over the killing of two cops in Kulgam, the separatists have proffered to remain silent and not to stir the hornet's nest anymore by hailing the militants for Kulgam incident. Also, the militants too haven't claimed the responsibility of the attack due same being ridiculed by one and all in Kashmir Valley. Also, what could turn the tables around in Kashmir's political landscape is the fact that so far when the so called political analysts were calling for concern over peoples' participation in militant funerals, what would they say over Saturday's scenes. Young and old, tall and dwarf were all seen in unison weeping for the slain cops and condemning their killing. Participation of tens of thousands of people in their funeral processions has sent clear message to all that such gruesome acts of violence isn't welcome in Kashmir and the politics of the handful could no longer be generalised in the restive land called Kashmir. |
