Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 26:The 434-km long national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, has been closed for vehicular traffic due to snowfall and slippery road conditions. Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, trucks and oil tankers, are stranded on both sides of the highway. Official sources said Sonmarg-Zojila-Drass portion of Srinagar-Leh highway, including Zojila and Meenmarg, recorded light to moderate snowfall since early this morning, resulting in slippery road conditions. No vehicle was allowed from both sides on the highway as a precautionary measure, they added. The Border Roads Origination (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway have pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the highway so that stranded vehicles are cleared. The highway remains closed for winter months due to 10 to 15 feet snowfall. |
