Upper reaches experience snowfall, cloudy sky in plains in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 26: Upper reaches in Kashmir valley, including border town of Gurez, experienced snowfall while the cloudy sky in the plains resulted in severe chill during the day though the night temperature has witnessed further improvement. However, world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam received rain since early morning. A Met department spokesman here this afternoon said that there could be scattered rain or snow during the next 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir. But, he said weather will be dry from November 28 which will result in further dip in the temperature. All tree, electric poles and roof tops had turned white in the border town of Gurez, including Razdan top and Dawar and Tulail valley, in north Kashmir district of Bandipora received first snowfall of the season. The upper reaches, including at Zojila, Meenmarg and other places received light to moderate snowfall, resulting in closure of Srinagar-Leh highway, which connects Ladakh region with rest of the state. Baltal, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine also experienced snowfall today. However, moderate to heavy snowfall was experienced at holy cave and its periphery, Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top and Panjterni on traditional yatra route. But, world famous health resort of Pahalgam received rain. Meanwhile, world famous ski resort of Gulmarg also received rain which resulted in further dip in the day temperature. Even though the summer capital, Srinagar witnessed improvement in the night temperate as mercury surged and settled at 4.3 degree, against 1.5 degree recorded yesterday, people woke up to a chilly morning due to cloudy skies coupled with ice cold winds. The night temperature in Srinagar was over four notches above normal. People could be seen wearing woolen and warm clothes besides using gas heater and other gadgets for heating purpose because of chill since this morning due to cloudy sky in Kashmir, where life returned to normal for the second successive weekend as markets and roads witnessed heavy rush of shoppers and vehicles following long relaxation in strike by separatists. The spokesperson said there was possibility of light rain or snow tomorrow in the summer capital, Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 11 degree and minus 1 degree respectively. He said there is also possibility of light rain or snow at Leh in Ladakh region, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 10 degree and minus 2 degree respectively. |
