Krishi Vigyan Kendra organises sponsored training programme on advance horticulture | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, Dec 2: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology -Jammu(SKUAST-J) organized sponsored training programme on advance horticulture in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Samba at KVK, Reasi campus under the Mission on Integrated Development for Horticulture (MIDH) scheme. Programme was organized under the guidance of Dr.R.K.Arora, Associate Director Extension of SKUAST-J. Horticulture Department Officer, Dheeraj Kumar and 28 orchardists from different blocks of Samba district of J&K participated in the programme. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi inaugurated the programme with the warm welcome of the farmers. He elaborated the scientific guidelines especially on subtropical horticulture. In this programme various technical sessions were covered. Dr.Banarsi suggested the farmers that they should commercially grow horticultural crops and motivated the farmers for the entrepreneurship development in horticultural crops. He educated the farmers on the high yielding/hybrid varieties of subtropical fruit plants. He also explained the scientific methods for planting the horticultural plants. He explained the nursery raising techniques in horticulture and suggested farmers for the entrepreneurship development in nursery raising. He told the farmers that they can generate extra income and employment by growing the horticultural crops. He also gave a detail view of various state and centrally sponsored schemes especially for the orchardists. He briefed the preventive measures of horticulture plant diseases and recommended some chemicals for controlling the plant diseases. He also elaborated the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for the orchardists and suggested the farmers that they should use internet for awareness on advance horticulture. Dr.Mandeep Singh Azad, scientist suggested the farmers that they should use animals Farm Yard Manure (FYM)/vermicompost for the horticultural plants and emphasized on organic horticulture .Dr.Sanjay Kaushal, scientist gave a detail view on the site selection and layout of orchards. He emphasized on the Integrated Nutrient Management in the fruit plants. Dheeraj Kumar, HDO spoke on the management of fruit drop in horticultural plants. In this programme crop cafeteria, poultry unit, vermicompost unit, net house unit, high density mango orchard unit and mushroom unit of KVK, Reasi were demonstrated to the farmers. Farmers were inspired after observing the results of KVK farm. |
