EDI scheme dismays aspirants | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 25: The Jammu Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute has released an advertisement giving details of its Seed Capital Fund Scheme. The scheme is a component of Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth. Under this programme the government provides seed money and financial assistance to educated youth to start their own enterprise. The government provides 35% seed money and 65% bank finance. The SKEWPY has proved a damp squib as not many youth have enrolled themselves under the scheme. An aspirant told Early Times that the finances provided under this scheme are too meagre to help one start an enterprise. "The under graduates in particular, who form the bulk of the unemployed youth get Rs 4 lakhs only after a month or so of training. However, this amount is too meagre. The authorities must know that a computer costs around Rs 50,000 to 75000 in the contemporary times," he said. He further said that the aspirant has to show a place which may be owned or rented to the authorities where he intends to start the business. "In most of the cases, it proves a major stumbling block. Similarly the graduates get Rs 5 lakhs. The people who got the money have either opted for boutiques or garment outlets. How is it going to help them?" Other aspirants had similar stories to tell. They have urged the concerned to increase the amount if they really want to help the unemployed youth. |
