7th pay commission adds to PDP's woes | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 25: The differences between some PDP ministers and party leaders seem to be only mounting by the day. For example, the incumbent Finance Minister has hailed everyone except his predecessor and senior PDP leader for the smooth implementation of 7th pay commission in the smooth. On Wednesday, the Minister for Finance, Education, Labour and Employment said that effective fiscal management holds key to good governance, even as he hailed the department for managing the state finances well. "Our state is deficient in resources, but the way finance department has been all the way handling the fiscal management is highly appreciable," the minister said at an informal interaction with departmental functionaries after inaugurating a newly established Conference Hall here at Finance Complex, Muthi. Principal Secretary Finance, Director General Accounts and Treasuries, heads of different wings and other officials were present at the function. The minister asked the officials to continue to work with same spirit and zeal, adding that the department has a pivotal role in guiding the government towards efficient and productive use of its limited resources. "I appreciate your expertise as despite limited resources, you are helping the state well to handle and meet the expenses," the minister added. Responding to the issues raised by the officials, the minister said that the government is committed to meet the aspirations of the employees. He said implementation of 7th pay commission recommendations bear testimony to it. The minister also appreciated executing agency Jammu and Kashmir Industry Limited - a state government undertaking- for exceptionally good work while developing the hi-tech conference hall for the department. What, however, has raised eyebrows is that fact that the Finance minister didn't utter a word of appreciation for his predecessor who is also a senior PDP leader and one of the party's senior voices. As he was ousted from the cabinet earlier in March this year, his absence seems to be nowhere felt within the power corridors of the state. When the 7th pay commission was announced in the state on Tuesday, there was not even a single word of appreciation for the former Finance minister who actually announced the pay hike during the budget session earlier this year in the state legislature. "There should have been a word of thanks to the former finance minister as it was he who actualized the dream of implementing the 7th Pay commission in the state sans any confrontation. Such a thankless job is politics," says a senior National Conference leader. Meanwhile, within the PDP there are reports that the confrontation between the incumbent Finance minister and the former only is witnessing a spike and there is no end to it. "We were expecting that the government would give some credit to the former finance minister for actually doing enough for the employees and streamlining the otherwise financial sector in the state. That didn't happen and that proves that the wedge is only widening and getting deep and dreadful with each passing day," says a PDP leader. |
