Early Times Report
Jammu, May 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Skills Development Mission Society (JKSDMS) has been selecting candidates for regional level skill competition but has virtually failed to address the problem of low retention rate of recruits in various industries. The JKSDMS was created in 2016, with a purpose of creating an all encompassing integrated structure for streamlining various skill development programmes and play a pivotal role in monitoring, coordination, facilitating and providing overall policy direction for skill development activities in the state. But so far the officials associated with the Mission have been failed to address the grievances and obstacles faced by the youth of state, who were recruited though earlier skill missions such as Udaan. "After wasting lot of time with Udaan authorities, finally we were placed in a business establishment in Noida but the remuneration paid by them was so low that it was almost impossible to survive there", a youth said, adding that it was an agreement with the company, not to leave them without a particular time frame. "It was virtually exploitation of youth by the business establishments. Almost all the youth recruited though Udaan had left their jobs and joined some other company, to make their ends meet", the applicant said. An official associated with JKSDMS said that the Society has been spending huge money to compile data, which only speaks about their alleged achievements but they were totally silent about the feedback of those candidates, who had to face hurdles and problem of low wages. "There is no data of candidates, who retained their jobs or the problems being faced by them", the official said, adding that the core issues of the youth of state remained unattended. Moreover the companies which come for campus placement drives knew it very well that there was acute shortage of placement avenues for J&K youth, so they offer very low wages. "Moreover, in Jammu province alone, there are many private industry players, who are not recruiting locals besides those who are employed are not even paid wages of skilled, semi-skilled class", the official said, adding that government must address these issues, instead of patting their back for no achievements. |
