Resignation of Sham Lal a significant development
Jammu's changing scenario

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 22: Political situation in Jammu is changing and changing very fast. People are coming forward to register their protest against the discriminatory policies formulated and implemented by the coalition government. They are also expressing their concern over the fast-changing demographic profile of the Jammu province, especially districts of Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur. They are convinced that if they remained dormant or devoid of any political activity, Jammu province would get submerged under the rising tide of Kashmiri sub-nationalism.
In fact, 2018 has been witnessing a different Jammu and it all started with the startling disclosures made by a Jammu-based lawyer, Ankur Sharma, that the Tribal Affairs Department's minutes of February 14, 2018 were fraught with dangerous ramifications and those minutes must be withdrawn to allay the fears of the minority community. The minutes had directed the revenue magistracy and police not to disturb and dislocate any member of the tribal community occupying the forest, the state or any other land and that the police shall not provide protection for eviction of encroachers. It united the people of Jammu against the PDP-BJP Government. The minutes were a direct inducement for land grabbing in Jammu, Ankur Sharma said and many endorsed his apprehensions.
The unfortunate Rassana incident (alleged rape and murder of a tribal girl) further made the people of Jammu to believe that "an insidious influence was at work to defame them by framing them in fabricated case". The manner the PDP-BJP Government handled the issue; the manner in which the BJP at the behest of the PDP made Lal Singh and CP Ganga to resign from the ministry; the manner in which the Crime Branch allegedly harassed the members of the minority community; and the manner in which sections of national media presented the Kathua case all united the people of Jammu province, especially people of Kathua and Samba districts. The May 20 massive 37-KM-long Dogra Swabhiman Rally established beyond doubt that the people of Jammu have woken up and that they are fully aware of the dangers facing them. Rassana is going to change the history of the state. The sacked minister Lal Singh has succeeded in giving an emotional orientation to the Rassana issue with people coming forward the struggling people of Rassana. His "Dogra Pride" doctrine has struck an emotion chord with the people and that was quite visible all along the oute of the rally from Lakhanpur to Londi Morh.
The sudden resignation of Sham Lal Sharma from the post of Sr Vice-President, JKPCC, also indicated that political situation in Jammu is changing. He resigned from the post on Jammu-specific issues and against the Valley-centric politics being indulged in by the Kashmiri dominated Congress. The charges Sham Lal Sharma reportedly leveled against the party leadership were not normal; they were very serious. In fact, Sham Lal Sharma's resignation indicated that all was not well with the JKPCC and that there were people in Congress from Jammu who were feeling suffocated in the party because of the Kashmir-based Congress leadership's friendly attitude towards the separatists in Kashmir as well as the common cause between it and the NC and the PDP.
All these developments do suggest that things in Jammu would heat up.
