Early Times Report

Jammu, July 8: In a shocking development, the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), University of Jammu under the administrative control of VC Professor Ramji Dass Sharma has dealt a severe blow to the aspirations of distance learners by closing down four study centres at far off places.
Sources informed that students belonging to far flung areas aspiring to seek higher education through the mode of distance education have already been victimized by the University authority by closing down post graduate courses of Political Science, Economics, M Ed and B Ed and visibly no effort seems to have been made to retrieve these courses bringing down the sagging reputation of University of Jammu.
Such a state of affairs reflects the inefficient level of incumbent Director DDE Prof Darshana Sharma, sources alleged adding that she is dancing to the tune to her subordinate officials and giving lame excuses to higher authority to save her skin which is shielding her weak points for unknown reasons.
Sources further divulged that four learner's support centres were opened at Billawar, Ramnagar, Ramban and Samba in different degree colleges for the facility of students of these districts, but it is sad to learn that these centres have been closed by the incumbent Director DDE, Darshana Sharma. Sources further told that the Coordinator of these centres Dr Jaspal Singh never visited these centres even once and it appears both Director DDE and Coordinator learner's support centres Dr Jaspal are hand in glove to shut down these centres due to their negligence and inept handling to run these centres.
This is how negligently the Directorate of Distance Education is functioning under the headship of Prof Darshana Sharma who is playing with the academic future of students and there is none in the University including its Vice Chancellor Prof Ramji to take cognizance of the problems of innocent students of far flung area nor any action has been taken against these delinquent officers.
Sources urged the Governor as he himself is the Chancellor of Jammu University to intervene in the matter and order thorough probe into the whole gamut of irregularities and closing down of these learner's support centres.
